PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management through independent third-party certification. With more than two-thirds of the world's certified forests managed in compliance with PEFC's Sustainability Benchmarks, PEFC is the world's largest forest certification system and the certification system of choice for small- and family forest owners.
This document defines the requirements for group certification under a forest certification scheme. Group certification allows the certification of multiple forest holdings under one certificate, a concept that is considered the most effective option for small family- and community-owned forests to obtain certification and gain access to global timber markets.
This global public consultation is an essential element in the revision process. Comments and suggestions received form an important input into the process will be considered and discussed by the multi-stakeholder working groups comprising representatives from a broad range of sectors including forest owners, industry, customers, the scientific community, environmental groups and trade unions.
